Preparations are underway for a huge live auction of more than 400 of Rita Crundwell's horses. Because of the auction, the City of Dixon is getting ready for more than 1,500 visitors on September 23 and 24.

"I understand there's a bidder coming from as far away as China," said Mayor Jim Burke. "I've been told by some people that they can't find a hotel room for here anyplace."

There's no question, the Crundwell ranch will be buzzing with activity just over two weeks from today. And there are a lucky few local food vendors that will get all that business. Restaurants have exactly one week to turn in a proposal. Michelle Ketchum with Mama Cimino's Italian Restaurant feels confident with their proposal --

"Right away in the morning we're going to have staff ready with a breakfast buffet which will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy."

Mayor Burke says about a dozen food vendors in the area have already inquired about the job, but only four of them will be chosen in the end.

"I think we want to take a look at their menus and what they have to offer, how much space they're going to take up. They have to be prepared for rain or shine." Burke also says vendors need to be fast, "We don't want people standing in line for an hour to get a hamburger."

There will be some sort of override fee tacked on to vendor food prices. That extra money will go to the city. The fee has not yet been determined but it will be the same for every vendor at the auction.
