The Rock Island Arsenal held a memorial Tuesday morning to commemorate the eleventh anniversary of the events of September 11th, 2001. Active military members and employees of the Arsenal participated in a Memorial Walk

At 6:30 a.m., participants carried bundles of American flags. Each flag representing those who gave their lives 11 years ago or in the war on terror. The flags were placed around the Rock Island Arsenal Twin Towers Monument on the Island. The flags will remain in place until just after reveille on Friday, September 14.

The Arsenal is preparing a Remembrance Ceremony for the public at 1:00 p.m. at the RIA Twin Towers Monument.

The United Neighbors are also holding a candlelight vigil in Davenport, Iowa at 5:30 p.m. at the office on Harrison Street.

Flags in Iowa and Illinois are being flown at half staff.
