A fire tears through a Burlington neighborhood Saturday, leaving a blackened mess, and what used to be the garage is now burned to the ground in pieces, possibly because of a recalled car.
"It was just a lot of smoke and then we heard one big boom and that was it," Neighbor Bill Wilke says.
"I ran to my window and seen all the black smoke, and the flames flowing up sky high," Neighbor MarScine Brown adds.
Neighbors say the owner of this house may have seen signs of what was to come.
"He said he smelled something burning in his car, and he pulled into the garage, and within 5 minutes it was gone," Neighbor Bill Wilke says.
Seven homes were damaged from the flames, each one ranging from $1,000 up to $30,000 worth of damage.
"It was just lucky it didn't get any further than what it did," Wilke says.
The car in question is a 2002 Buick Regal GS. According to the department of transportation-- over one million similar cars were recalled in 2008 and 2009 for engine and cooling issues that could cause fires.
It's unknown if this is related to the cause of this fire, but the owner tells TV6 he didn't know his car had been recalled and was never given any notice.
Now, neighbors are still trying to fix the damage done, but say they're lucky it wasn't worse.
"That's a blessing, no one was injured," Brown says.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of this fire, but do believe it could have been started by a car in the garage
