Police say a custody dispute late Wednesday night in Rock Island, Ill., ended in murder. Rock Island Police were called to a disturbance Wednesday night around 11:00 in the 900 block of 15th Street. They say 25 year old Jeremy Graves of Davenport, Iowa went to the house to pick up a child, but instead, got into a physical altercation with family members.
According to police, he got into a 2005 Buick and started to do donuts in the middle of the street along with driving up over the sidewalk and boulevard. When officers arrived on scene they saw people in the street and saw Graves drive toward them. Police then witnessed Graves hit a 43-year-old woman in the group and run her over.
They say he tried to take off by driving over the sidewalk but crashed into a parked trailer on 9th Avenue. He then attempted to run away but an officer chased after him. After a struggle, during which the officer was punched in the face, Graves was arrested.
Police say the victim was taken to Trinity Hospital and transported to Iowa City this morning where she died. Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
Graves is being charged with First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Driving Under The Influence, Resisting Police Officer, Threatening A Public Official, and Driving On A Suspended Or Revoked License.
