Authorities say a lockdown at Buchanan School in Davenport, Iowa was all a misunderstanding.

The following is a press release sent out by the Davenport School District:

Davenport, Iowa-Buchanan Elementary School instituted lock down procedures for approximately 30 minutes today during the noon hour. During recess a student reported that a man was near the edge of the playground and the student thought the individual had a weapon. Buchanan teachers and staff members responded quickly and appropriately to this information by  calling recess a few minutes short and taking the students inside the building where lockdown procedures were implemented. Davenport Police were called to the scene and investigated the incident.  Police officers stated that any reports of a threat were unfounded. An all clear was called for the building.

Parents of Buchanan students were sent autodialer and/or text messages regarding the incident and a letter have been sent home to parents in each child's backpack. We would like to commend Davenport Community Schools employees for their prompt action to ensure the safety of our students which is always our first priority.
