Another downtown loft apartment complex is ready to open in the Quad Cities. Renew Moline will hold a grand opening ceremony Wednesday afternoon for the Enterprise Lofts in downtown Moline. After five years of planning, the development group is ready to unveil the live-work concept.

If you've taken I-74 in Moline, you've seen the complex built from the ground up. The 69 unit complex sits off River Dr. featuring an eclectic mix of varied height roofs, stucco and brick. The live-work lofts give residents the opportunity to live and work downtown or out of their apartments.

"Especially on the first floor," said Renew Moline Executive Director Janet Mathis. "There's access to the street from those, there's a business center, there's a conference center that they can use."

Mathis says it hasn't been an easy process to get these apartments built. The project started in 2007 and had to be restarted three times because of the slow economy. It was launched again after the Illinois Housing Development Authority provided $10 million in tax credits for construction. Ground was broken in November, 2010 for the $12.5 million building.

"There are pieces that come and go and things that change along the way and this one was no different. The Illinois Housing Development Authority was integral in this project," Mathis said.

The project is being called a success. All but one of the residential units are leased. There is retail space available on the ground level. Plans to open a convenience store there are already in the works.
