A fixture in downtown Moline is getting ready to move, but Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center won't be going very far. The family-owned business released plans Friday to build a brand new facility in downtown Moline, at 701 12th Street.

Eric Trimble says they would prefer to stay in their current location, where they have been for some 90 years; however, it stands in the way of the new I-74 Bridge project.

With the move, comes an ambitious plan to expand with the construction of Trimble Pointe, a multi-purpose development that includes a crematory, veterans funeral care, funeral planning and a reception area. The complex will also feature a view of the river and an outdoor gazebo and scattering garden.

"It's an opportunity to give back with what will become a landmark building," Trimble said.

Trimble says they are working on permits and hope to break ground before winter sets in.

According to a news release, the business was started in 1874 on Rodman Ave., now River Drive, by a Civil War veteran. The business moved to it's current location at 601 21st St. in 1913.
