It's the focal point in the village of Orion. The ninety nine year old Central Park Bandshell. A place for people in town to gather for special events.
The structure needs renovation, and that's where Main Street Orion steps up. Deb Ford is with that organization. She is organizing a Locking Ceremony which will take place on October 20th.
When Deb visited Germany last year, she saw a Lovescape Location. It's a fixture on a bridge crossing the Danube River. Couples wrote their names on padlocks, locked them to the bridge, threw the key into the river, symbolically locking their love forever.
So, Deb decided to try it in Orion. Main Street Orion is selling padlocks for twenty five dollars each. They can be engraved with a variety of inscriptions. Those locks will be placed on a chain link fence at Central Park. Money from the sales of the locks will be used to help renovate the bandshell in the village. That will designate Orion as an official Lovescape Location.
The bandshell was bult in 1913 for five hundred dollars. The renovation could cost as much as ten thousand dollars. Work includes painting the structure and resurfacing it.
Over the years, concerts, free movies, and little girls beauty pageants have taken place at the bandshell.
