Collection has begun in Rock Island for the fall 2012 onslaught of leaves. The City of Rock Island is providing free leaf collection for its residential refuse customers from Monday, October 8, through Friday, November 30, 2012.
Although the collection is free for customers, leaves must be placed in approved paper yard waste bags. The city will provide free bags but approved paper yard waste bags may also be used.
The bags must be placed at the normal refuse collection location on the regular refuse collection day. A separate truck will collect the leaf bags. The bags may not contain anything other than leaves.
City officials say residents do not have to be participants in the Yard Waste Subscription Service to use this leaf collection service and a yard waste sticker is not needed on the bags of leaves.
