As the weather gets colder in the Quad Cities, there are fewer and fewer outdoor activities for people to enjoy. One local company wants to change that. Financial District Properties is preparing to open an outdoor ice skating rink at Bass Street Landing, located on 17th St. in downtown Moline, Ill.
The developers, who recently built the new Kone building, adjacent to the plaza, plan to open the full size, public ice rink by mid November. They say it will come complete with skate rental and a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine. Also planned are a food and concession area complete with rest rooms and an "adult area" to watch and wait from.
According to developers, Center Ice at Bass Street Landing will be similar to Millennium Park in Chicago, Ill., and Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
The rink is being purchased and installed by IceRinkEvents, a company that provides seasonal and permanent ice rinks around the world. It's set to be installed in early November and removed in mid April of 2013.
