It's a hobby typically associated with women. However, as a quilter, Garry Lanman certainly holds his own.

In their basement studio, Garry and his wife Donna sit across from their sewing machines, and as you might expect, sew, sew, and sew. The two are members of the Mississippi Valley Quilt Guild.  Garry is one of a handful of men in the guild, and jokingly says he sometimes feels like the Lone Ranger.  He enjoys the cutting and concentration it takes to make quilts. The couple quilts without using a frame or hoop.

Donna joined the guild in 1991. Garry made his first wall hanging five years later. Their home is a showcase of quilts. Some are blue ribbon winners. Every month they put up different colors. Some for Autumn, Christmas, or Spring.

Over the years, the couple has made more than 200 quilts. They give several to family members as gifts. Donna says it's quite nice for the two of them to share a common hobby. They buy the fabric at shops all over the area. Each quilt is unique and has a story all its own.
