Iowa Farmland Values Up 18.5%

Updated:

The value of cropland across Iowa continues to rise according to a report by the Land Trends and Value Survey. It found that Iowa cropland values were 18.5 percent higher for the year from September 1, 2011 to September 1, 2012. That's on top of a 32.6 percent increase in farmland values the previous year.

Values are higher, not only because of higher commodity prices, but also because there is little cropland for sale, according to Ruhl and Ruhl Realtors.

The survey pointed to some concerns that could affect farmland value in the future, including any increase in interest rates and greater amounts of land being offered for sale.
