Early voting began in Illinois Monday and Rock Island County offered several new satellite locations--all which reported long lines.

This year, you can vote at public facilities other than the county clerk's office including the new Western Illinois University riverfront campus, the Milan municipal building and the Moline Public Library.

Karen Kinney, Rock Island Co. Clerk, says early voting is popular among people who are on their lunch hour or who don't have a lot of time.

"The early voting is a good alternative to election day because election day, I believe the lines will be even longer and it'll be hard to find parking spaces," Kinney said.

The voter trolley, which is a mobile polling place, is also making stops at several senior communities. During a stop Monday at Friendship Manor, Kinney says they processed over 100 trolley votes.

Kinney adds that she's pleased with the turn-out and believes the activity shows people are taking the election very seriously. Hours for early voting in Rock Island County vary with both evening and Saturday opportunities to vote.

Early voting in Iowa began earlier this month, but in Scott County, expanded to satellite locations on Monday, including the Bettendorf Public Library and libraries in Davenport and Eldridge.
