The Quad City Mallards hockey team has been taken over by the Central Hockey League. That was announced at a news conference Tuesday. Officials also said they are looking for a new owner.

The latest troubles began in August when Head Coach and General Manager Dave Bell resigned. While Bell did not get into specific details, in his letter of resignation, he pointed to a "situation with the Mallards management team."

Then, the team missed its season opener last Friday, blaming that on some team members who had visa issues and could not get out of Canada.

The next game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26 in Tulsa. The Home Opener will be held on Saturday night with another home matinee on Sunday. The Mallards also signed veteran winger SHAYNE TOPOROWSKI,.the younger brother of former Mallard star KERRY TOPOROWSKI.
