Davenport Police say two separate crimes on Monday October 22, 2012 were committed by the same person.
Just before noon on Monday, a man walked into the Family Credit Union in the 1400 block of Rockingham Road, Davenport, Iowa. Police say he handed the teller a note that implied he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene and was last seen heading west.
Later that night, around 10:15 p.m., an Iowa State Trooper spotted a semi-tractor on I-80 that had been reported stolen. The trooper attempted to pull the truck over. Stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle was finally stopped after crashing into a Cedar County Sheriff's department vehicle.
According to a police report released Wednesday, October 24, 2012, the driver of the stolen semi is also being charged with the Family Credit Union robbery.
When he was arrested, 47-year-old Elbert Lee Karr Jr., of Davenport was in possession of money that was later connected to the credit union robbery. Davenport Police also made a positive identification of the suspect from credit union employees.
Karr has been charged by Davenport Police Detectives with Robbery in the Second Degree and is being held in the Cedar County Jail on the robbery charge.
Karr also has numerous charges filed by the Iowa State Patrol and Cedar County Sheriff's Office related to the pursuit.
