For six year-old Chris Lauritzson, the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds are a place he will always remember. President Obama visited the fairgrounds Wednesday and Lauritzson was among those in the crowd. After he spoke to the audience, President Obama started to shake hands, and gave the little boy scout the surprise of a lifetime, by buying a box of popcorn from him.
"It was cool seeing the President and I was just happy to see him," Lauritzson said.
However, the "tiger scout" says what made him feel even happier, was getting the chance to sell the Commander in Chief, his very own box of boy scout popcorn. It's something the President wrote next to his signature, he is "really looking forward to."
"He was just going by shaking hands and when he came by we asked him if he'd like to buy some popcorn," said the little boy's Dad, who is also named Chris.
"He said sure and he said 'money' and pointed to Secret Service agent and the guy said 'how much is it?' and we gave him the paper and said prices are on the back, and he gave us $20."
Chris Sr. says he couldn't believe it.
"I was dumb founded, can't believe the President of the United States is actually buying popcorn from my son."
He said at that moment he could not have felt more proud.
"It was priceless, looked like it was Christmas morning. I think he is going to remember this for a lifetime. He is going to have something to tell his children."
He'll also have quite the story come the next boy scout meeting.
The family says they plan on copying the boy scout order form and framing the original as a keepsake their son can cherish forever.
