Getting kids interested in being a firefighter or astronaut when they grow up is easy, but what about getting them interested in manufacturing jobs? That was the goal for the Junior Achievement of the Heartland.
The JA High School Advanced Manufacturing Careers Expo took place on Friday, October 26, 2012, at the John T. Blong Technology Center in Davenport, Iowa. Students got the chance to learn about options in advanced manufacturing. They also received hands on experience with equipment used on the job.
Junior Achievement hopes this will help boost the economy and give students the tools they need to pursue a career in these industries.
The President of Junior Achievement of the Heartland, Barbara Venhorst explains, "We've found that of the top ten jobs that are going to be the most difficult to fill, the number one is skilled trades. And then you also have machinists and machine builders, as well as truck drivers. And so there is a definite need out there, and we are helping to fulfill that need."
Students from 15 different schools participated in Friday's career expo.
