Davenport police have some answers to a puzzling set of circumstances earlier this month and now are searching for a man they say planned an elaborate kidnapping, shooting and arson to retaliate against his former girlfriend.

Back on October 8, 28-year-old Brittany Hamilton walked into the Flying J Truck Stop on Northwest Blvd. and told two Scott County deputies that she and 36-year-old Brian Williams had been duct taped and abducted from the home they shared in the 6000 block of Hillandale Rd. She said they were driven to a field, assaulted and she was shot in the leg and left in a ditch. She said the suspects then left with Williams.

Williams was later found walking in the 2800 block of W. 58th St., still with duct tape, but no apparent injuries.

Now, police say Williams was not a victim. They say he was in the process of breaking up with Hamilton and conspired with three others to stage the abduction. After leaving Hamilton wounded in a ditch, police say Williams and the others drove to the home of Hamilton's new boyfriend, poured gasoline around the home and set it on fire. Five people inside were able to escape unharmed.

While police are still working to identify the co-conspirators, they have already sought charges of kidnapping, arson and assault against Williams.

Police say if you see Williams, you should call 9-1-1.
