Update: A Galesburg, Ill., woman is set to appear in court Monday, October 29, 2012, to face charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal accident following a weekend crash. Authorities say Lakeesha Smith was behind the wheel when she struck and killed a Knox College student who was crossing the street early Sunday morning.

GALESBURG, Illinois - Knox College junior Tundun Lawani died early Sunday morning after she was struck by a vehicle around 3:30 a.m. near South and West streets.

The Student reports the Galesburg Police Department has located the vehicle and is questioning a suspect believed to be the driver, who fled the accident scene.

The Knox College website says students gathered Sunday afternoon in the Taylor Student Lounge to remember Tundun.  A Facebook group honoring Tundun's memory had more than 600 members by early Monday morning.
