On Sunday October 28, 2012 at approximately 11:48 a.m. the Burlington Police Department responded to the 1600-block of South Central Avenue regarding a gunshot wound victim being located in the area. Officers located a 33-year-old male who had sustained a single gunshot wound.

During the course of the investigation it was determined the shooting had taken place in the 1600 block of South 12th Street and the suspect had fled the area in a vehicle. The male victim was transported via ambulance to Great River Medical Center and then later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment of his injuries.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle and its occupants were located in the 800 block of West Mt. Pleasant Street in West Burlington. A 21-year-old West Burlington resident, Julian Jerome Collins, was taken into custody and later charged with Possession Of A Firearm By a felon, a class D felony, and Willful Injury, a class C felony. Julian Jerome Collins was being held at the Des Moines County Correctional Center with no bond.

The investigation is on going and is being handled by the Burlington Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.
