It's not construction that caused traffic problems on River Drive in the Iowa Quad Cities Thursday morning--it was the vice president. Joe Biden stopped at Ross' Restaurant near the I-74 Bridge in Bettendorf before heading out to a campaign rally at West Middle School in Muscatine.

Police blocked traffic at the I-74 exit ramp and four intersections surrounding the restaurant.

The vice president came to the Quad Cities Wednesday night and started Thursday morning with a mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Then, he headed to Bettendorf for breakfast at a Quad City landmark, Ross' 24 hour Restaurant.

Melissa Freidhof-Rodgers is the general manager at the restaurant. She's also the granddaughter of the restaurant's founder. She had no notice of Biden's visit, but was pleasantly surprised.

"Just shocked and incredibly honored to have had the visit. I think it's wonderful that they acknowledge local business, local family-run business. We're very blessed to have had the visits this year and yeah, we're thrilled, Freidhof-Rodgers said.

Ross' has now hosted both Biden and President Barack Obama, who visited the diner last year.

So, what does a vice president eat before making a campaign stop? His order included eggs and sausage.
