Nicholas Sheley has now been convicted of murdering two people. On Tuesday, a Whiteside County jury found Sheley guilty for the murder of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling.
Last year, a Knox County jury found Sheley guilty for the murder of Ronald Randall of Galesburg.
But Sheley is accused of a 2008 killing spree that left eight people dead. He faces charges for the murders of six others.
The next trial involves a quadruple homicide that also took place in Whiteside County. Sheley is charged with the murders of 29-year-old Brock Branson, his girlfriend Kilynna Blake and her two-year-old son, Dayan. He's also charged with the murder of Kenneth Ulve.
But Sheley's defense attorney, Jeremy Karlin, said there may be some changes for the next trial--
"It's unlikely that the case will be tried in Whiteside County," Karlin said. "With the increased publicity, with the cameras in the courtroom, it could make it more difficult to find a fair and impartial jury that doesn't have opinions about Nicholas's guilt."
Sheley's sentencing date for the murder of Russell Reed is set for January 16, 2013. He could be sentenced to another life term.
