A teen from Bushnell, Illinois was seriously injured Friday morning when he lost control of his car and hit a fertilizer truck in McDonough County.

According to a news release by Illinois State Police District 14, a Chevy Celebrity driven by 18-year-old Jacob A. Johnson was traveling on county road 1400 E. around 9 a.m., when it went off the right shoulder, crossed the center and hit a Peterbuilt 3 axle fertilizer truck. The car then flipped onto its top and caught on fire.

Johnson was trapped inside and had to be extricated by emergency crews. He suffered serious injuries and was air-lifted from the scene to a hospital in Peoria. The driver of the truck, 75-year-old Joseph Sullivan of Macomb, was not injured.

Illinois State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
