Truant Galesburg, Illinois students get a wake-up call

Updated:

GALESBURG, Illinois - (AP)  School officials in Galesburg are succeeding in getting chronically truant students back into the classroom.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Galesburg truancy officers can make home visits and issue $75 tickets to parents.

Outreach workers have given children alarm clocks or shoes.  District officials say the program has paid by bringing in more state funding tied to attendance.
