Trinity Employees Climb Stairs For Better Health


Climbing stairs is a great way to get some exercise and employees at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island are being encouraged to take the stairs for better health. 

Trinity's wellness committee launched a stairwell-climbing challenge for employee to drive the point that climbing stairs doesn't require any special equipment or money. 

Studies show that the risk of cardiovascular disease and death is lower among those who are regular stair climbers. 

But how much exercise do you get from climbing a flight of stairs?

-In one minute, a 150-pound person burns approximately 10 calories walking up stairs and only 1.5 calories riding an elevator.

-If you climb just two flights of stairs every day, you can lose up to six pounds a year.

-Want to lose even more? Then climb six flights of stairs every day. That gives you the possibility of losing 18 pounds a year.

-If you climb 20 flights of stairs, it's the equivalent of walking a mile.

Trinity says results may vary from person to person, but everyone will benefit.
