It could be the best Christmas present, ever for Quad City commuters. River Drive in Davenport is expected to be fully open by Christmas. That's according to the city, which just reopened one westbound lane between Mound and Oneida streets.

The project began back in May on the east-west thoroughfare linking Bettendorf to downtown Davenport. Aside from road improvements, the project has included extensive utility work, which has led to road closures and detours that wind through the central city.

According to Davenport Public Works, the best estimate for the completion of the section between Mound St. and the east city limits, is expected by the end of the first week of December. That means all four lanes will reopen and no future closures on that section are expected.

The section between Mound and Oneida will be opened to four lanes of traffic by Christmas.  In the spring, two lanes will be closed again while two remaining lanes are resurfaced.
