Where do you see yourself on your 90th birthday? A Muscatine woman, who turned 90-years-old Monday, decided she'd rather give than receive.

Mary Louise Caponette volunteered for the Salvation Army all day, ringing a bell and asking people for donations.

"Salvation Army is one of my favorite charities," Caponette said. "So I thought, I'll give the whole day to Salvation Army and I'll collect money for it." She worked an eleven hour shift on Monday. Not only taking donations but handing out hundreds of cookies, in honor of her birthday.

"I don't like cakes," she said. "I thought cookies would be the nicest thing to pass out."

She's been volunteering for the Salvation Army for 20 years, but it's not the only place she donates her time and energy. Caponette also volunteers at her church, the local hospital and a nearby museum.

"It's so rewarding," she said. "It makes my day."

And when asked about her secret to a long life -- Caponette said she just tries to stay busy.

"I just keep moving," she said.
