The motto is Always Vigilant.  The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. It is a volunteer organization.

There are about forty two people in the Quad City Composite Squadron. Civil Air Patrol missions include taking aerial photos during ice jams, flooding, tornadoes and other natural disasters. Major John Claeys says those photos are turned over to the proper authorities who figure out how to best address damage assessment.

The Civil Air Patrol also flies search and rescue missions. Disaster relief is also at the heart of what the organization does.

Through the cadet program, young men and women get the opportunity to answer the call. They learn survival techniques and develop leadership skills.

The Civil Air Patrol was born about a week before the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Thousands of volunteer members accepted and performed critical wartime missions. They sank or chased away German submarines off America's East and Gulf Coasts. Thousands of lives were saved.

The local squadron started about 70 years ago. There are more than 60 thousand Civil Air Patrol members, nationwide.
