Students in the Davenport School District are hosting a relief drive to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. Their plan is to pack an entire tractor-trailer with supplies and necessities and then send it off to help those on the East Coast.

Yesterday was a successful day; the trailer made its way to 5 different Davenport schools and will stop by 6 more today.

This entire event started after Wilson Elementary students sent a school bus full of supplies to the East Coast to aid in relief. When area businesses saw what the group of elementary students could accomplish they decided to help expand these efforts.

Hawkeye Movers, Atlas Van lines, and the Davenport Partnership all have collaborated with the Davenport Community Schools to host the relief event.

They'll be collecting supplies for reconstruction which would include plumbing and electrical supplies on top of all other goods.

"Some of the different types of donations that they're looking for toiletries, flashlights, batteries, gallon zip lock bags, baby and toddler food and formula," said Dawn Saul.

They are also looking for can openers but are not at this time accepting clothing. The drive will go on today from 8 am to 3:30 PM.

The tractor-trailer will stop at the Following schools on 11/28.
