A single vehicle crash on I-74 near Galesburg, Ill., has sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened Thursday afternoon, November 29, 2012, around 3:05 p.m., about 4 miles north of Galesburg.
The Illinois State Police say a semi tractor-trailer was heading east near mile marker 42 when it crossed over the right shoulder and struck the guardrail.
The truck continued through the guardrail into the right ditch, up the embankment and stuck the underside of the 2200 North overpass.
Galesburg Fire extricated both occupants who were transported from the scene due to injuries.
Police say the I-74 eastbound right lane was shut down for five and a half hours and both eastbound lanes were shut-down for 15 minutes for the recovery of the truck-tractor and semi trailer.
The driver, 54-year-old Kenneth O. Berry, of Carmichael, Calif., and passenger, 51-year-old Mario A. Morgan, of Turlock, Calif., were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
State police say charges are pending investigation.
