The KWQC TV6 Toys For Tots drive is just days away and the Marine Toys For Tots Donation Drive needs your donations.

"It helps a lot, we have 4 kids at home and it's just difficult sometimes," says Felicia Cotes of Kewanee.

Cotes is one of 2000 families that have registered for Toys For Tots this year. She says it is helping put presents under her families Christmas Tree.

"Anything to put a smile on here face," adds Cotes.

The smiles of grateful families are why Gerri Murdock started volunteering 17-years ago.

"I enjoy it because of the children and the families that are so thankful when they come pick up the toys," says Murdock, "I enjoy seeing the excitement on their faces

Murdock has done a variety of work with Toys for Tots. Currently, she's registering families.

"We're hearing more and more where the husband or the wife has lost their job and they're down to one income or none" says Murdock, "They're just desperate and they're crying. It really surprises me that we have this many out there that are in such need."

There are hundreds of bags full of toys, ready for families in the Toys For Tots Warehouse and registration hasn't ended.

"Right now we're hurting on everything," says Staff Sgt. Matt Starratt, "In particular, 6 to 9 year old girls is always a low count for us."

Families registering for toys, say they want to help in any way they can. So, they can give back to the organization that is helping them.

"It makes a big difference, even it's only 3 or 4 things," adds Cotes, "The little ones just appreciate it and I appreciate it as a parent."

If you would like to register for Toys For Tots there is still time. You can register on December 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th from 9am to 5pm. Your child must be between 6-months and 12-years old. You must have a photo ID, proof of address, and your child's birth certificate.

If you would like to make donation, the KWQC TV6 Toys For Tots drive is Tuesday, December 4th from 4:30am until 6:30pm. We will be taking your donation of new, unwrapped toys, here at the station at 805 Brady Street in Davenport.
