It's a concept that's been in the works for a while now and Monday night Bettendorf city leaders got to see the final plans for Forest Grove Park in Bettendorf.

"We've got to now begin to figure out, how we do this, and when do we do it," City Administrator Decker Ploehn said.

Ploehn says while council and park board members now have a master plan of what the park could look like, the real planning is just beginning.

"There's all kinds of stuff there and its going to take us a lot of years to develop, some we accomplish in our tenures and some in our successors tenures, just like Crow Creek Park was 35 to 40 years ago."

The 95 acre tract of land is located off Forest Grove Road near Spencer Creek, East of Middle Road and South of Interstate 80. Ploehn says he was very impressed with the master plan and all the amenities it had to offer.

"One is the miracle field, which is a baseball field for handicap folks that can play baseball and would be for only their use. I think the adventure course is has a lot opportunities, it's really  exciting. The great lawn is also a good feature.

He says the entire project will cost between 18 to 28 million dollars, and will be done in phases over the next thirty years. He says right now there's a not a lot of money in the budget to get the ball rolling, but he expects residents to see some work begin within the next five years.

"Some things can developed quickly, other things will be down the road, it just depends on where the council and the park board think those priorities are relative to all the other city priorities. I think everybody is excited for what it could bring to the community."

The city council and park board will be going over the budget in January, so they could make some decisions then about when they will start construction or what changes they want to make. The city will also be trying to get grants to help fund parts of the project.
