Your generosity came through for another great year Quad Cities. The totals from our annual Toys for Tots drive here at KWQC are almost three 7-ton trucks filled with toys along with $24,500 in monetary donations.
From the young to the young at heart. The spirit of the season clearly brings out the giving side of Quad Citians. "There are children, families that can't afford to buy toys, and it's fun for the people that give," said Delma Steffen, who dropped off toys at KWQC Tuesday.
Give they did as car after car rolled up to the station toting toys, sometimes by the trunk full. "It's awesome, they take the time no just the money, they take the time to go specifically look for things," said one volunteer.
Many times it was the little ones wanting to help out to make sure there's a toy under the tree for every tot. "This year we've seen a lot of families that have had birthday parties where kids have been giving away their birthday, their entire amount of toys to toys for tots," said Gunnery Sergeant Mathew Dorsey.
Marines say every bicycle, basketball, and Barbie means the world to families who might be struggling. The thousands in monetary donations will help make it go even farther. From the KWQC station it's on to Santa's workshop, a then into little hands and home for the holidays.
If you would like to register for Toys for Tots there is still time. Registration continues December 6th, 7th and 8th from 9 am to 5 pm. Your child must be between 6-months and 12-years old. You must have a photo ID, proof of address, and your child's birth certificate.
