THURSDAY UPDATE: Center Ice in Moline was supposed to have it's grand opening on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, but didn't because of cracks in the ice.

The rink was originally scheduled to open two weeks ago, in mid November, but got delayed because of technical problems and weather.

Now, the director of operations says the rink will open Friday morning.

WEDNESDAY'S STORY:

Despite about a two week delay the ice rink at Bass Street Landing will be ready Wednesday at noon for it's debut.

The weather and some technical issues were to blame for the delay, but now that the ice is set, TV6 Reporter Amber O'Brien is ready to make her figure skating debut as well.

The director of operations says they experienced equipment delays. They were sent the wrong chiller, which freezes the ice from below, and the ice wasn't freezing fast enough.
"It just wasn't freezing it fast enough, in addition to the weather being so warm," said Center Ice Director Larry Rosmilso.

We've seen some record high temperatures here in the Quad Cities, which is not exactly optimal for freezing ice. The original plan was to reveal the new ice rink this past weekend, and although it would have been a beautiful weekend for outdoor ice skating, the  grand opening of the new Center Ice at Bass Street Landing was delayed.

"Normally we'd open up in the middle of November and we'll stay open this year until April. Unfortunately we couldn't open on Saturday or Sunday, and I was down here and the people were just coming in just looking and everybody is just thrilled," said Rosmilso.

The rink will stay open even if we have high temps like we've had the past few days, like 60's or 70's. The plan is to keep the ice rink open until April 15th
