HENRY COUNTY, Iowa - Investigators in two Iowa counties are searching for a man spotted multiple times acting suspiciously around children. A total of four incidents have been reported to both the Washington and Henry County Sheriffs Departments in the past two weeks.
First, the Washington County Sheriff says a man was reported to be asking strange questions at someone's home outside Riverside, Iowa last week. A person believed to be the same man was reported acting "very odd" near downtown Riverside on Thursday.
A man believed to be the same involved in the two Washington County incidents was then spotted in Henry County Thursday afternoon in the 1500 grid of 150th Street. He was said to be driving a white van and said to be "acting suspiciously and driving very slowly while children were getting off the bus from school."
Hours later on Thursday evening the Henry County Sheriff received a complaint that someone believed to be the same man was seen Wednesday following an 11-year-old girl walking home from school in Winfield, Iowa. Investigators say that as soon as the child turned and spotted the man "the van gained speed" and quickly drove away, running a stop sign in the process.
Investigators are looking for a man around age 55 who is around 5'7" and last seen with a beard and wearing gray cargo pants. He was seen driving a white 1990's model Ford Econoline van with a 4" red stripe running horizontally around the vehicle.
Investigators say the man has not actually approached a child at this point but want the public to be aware of the reported suspicious behavior.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff's Office at (319) 385-2712.
