UPDATE: Just before noon, Moline Police released more information on the car found in the Mississippi River Monday morning, December 10 2012.

According to the police report, the lone female occupant was declared dead at the scene by Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.

No name has been released at this time, but according to Gustafson, the victim is a 28-year-old from East Moline, Ill.

The report also described the car as a red Pontiac Grand Prix four door.

Volunteer members of the Big River Rescue/Recovery Dive Team responded to the scene with the assistance of the Moline Police and Fire Departments along with Quad City Towing.

According to authorities, neighbors near the scene on River Drive helped out responders by providing a warm area for the divers as they rotated from the vehicle in the river. Their assistance and willingness to help the rescue teams is greatly appreciated by the responding rescuers.

UPDATE: Police say they have found a body inside a car pulled from the Mississippi River in Moline. They won't say whether it is that of a male of female. An autopsy is scheduled.

The car was pulled out around 8:20 a.m.  The car was discovered in the water off 41st St. and River Dr. overnight.

PREVIOUS UPDATE: The car is now below the surface of the water. There is now a dive team in the water.  Investigators say the cold temperatures and the windy conditions are hindering the dive team. They are not sure how long the divers will be in the water.

PREVIOUS STORY: MOLINE, Illinois - Police and fire responded early Monday morning to a partially submerged car off River Drive in Moline.  The car went into the water around 3:15 AM.

Police are not saying whether someone is trapped in the vehicle.  Police tell KWQC that it is a red car with no plates.  Divers will attempt to inspect the vehicle after 7 AM.
