Santa had some busy helpers at Friendly House in Davenport , including a police officer directing traffic. With help from local churches, a number of area businesses donated food, gifts and warm clothes to the organization, which were distributed to hundreds of families.

Those donations make up holiday meal baskets handed out by the Friendly House each year. Families registered in November and volunteers helped load cars Wednesday morning.

Long lines of cars wrapped around the block -- reminding organizers of the great need in the community, especially near the holidays.

"We are just very appreciative this time of the season, the love that people give us, different donations -- whether it be cash, presents, food. it's just amazing to see it all come together to help these families," said Jodi Stock, Family and Senior Services Supervisors at the Friendly House.

The baskets will be helping over 600 children. In addition to presents and a Christmas ham, families are provided with all the fixings for a holiday dinner.
