Burlington Family Gets Out Alive

A Burlington man is accused of setting fire to a house with his estranged wife and step son inside.

45 year old David good is being accused of arson in the first degree. He was caught by Burlington PD just hours after the fire was ruled suspicious.

Adam Messer, 27, step son of David, was sleeping in the house, along with his mother, Nina when the fire started around 11:15 PM Tuesday.

Now, Messer and his mother must pick up the pieces and try to move on.

"I was asleep on the floor when I woke up to a panicky voice of my mother saying the porch was on fire, says Messer. "We just grabbed our dog and got out."

The family was staying with a family friend, Zech Ream over the past several months.

"It's just sad," Messer add, "One that is gracious enough to open their home to a family in need and this is the thanks they get."

Messer tells us David Good was kicked out just a week ago. There has been domestic abuse charges filed in the last two months against David from his step son and wife.

The family had a temporary restraining order against David, but it ran out on December 7th.

Messer said, "He's violent, he's threatening.. It's nerve racking to be around."

But for now, David Good is behind bars, charged with arson, and is facing up to 25 years in prison.
