On Wednesday mornings, take a look around the Fellowship Hall at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Grand Mound. Some folks are playing dominoes while others are taking part in a sing along. It's the weekly meeting of the GEM Club. The Greet, Eat, and Meet Club.
The GEM Club is beginning its fifth year. People from Grand Mound and surrounding towns gather for coffee, friendly conversation, and catch up on what's news around town.
Texting and twitter, heavens no! Reverend Susen LeBlanc says at the club there's huggng, laughter, and personal conversation. People talk instead of text.
She says the club is an opportunity for people to get out of the house, mingle with friends, and have something to look forward to.
Folks in the club say Don Kent is the sparkplug. A gentleman with an engaging personality who makes the rounds and pours coffee when one of the club members rings a bell.
Louise Ellerhoff was playing dominoes with her husband and her 94 year old father. She says the weekly meetings brighten peoples' moods. You can come out for a couple of hours on Wednesday morning and know that your friends are here.
The GEM Club meets from 9-11am, most Wednesdays. All are welcome!
