Keeping Up the Momentum in Davenport

Updated:

Around the United States, holiday spending was fairly equal to last years numbers.

But in the QCA record numbers were recorded as shoppers poured out in massive numbers of the last couple months.

But where do we go from here? How do retailers keep their sales momentum going into the new year? That's a question many store owners and managers will be trying to answer as the holiday season draws to a close.

"It's all about clearance and sales and moving out all the inventory from the holiday," said J-C Penny employee, Jenni Haksen. "we still will get a lot of repeat business. And we may see people in the stores that are first time shoppers here. Or maybe they haven't been here for awhile. These are the people that will be making the exchanges."

Small business was also booming the QC, at least for one local shop.

Blue Sky Gifts in the Village of East Davenport is certainly high on confidence following their holiday rush.

But, I was told there is no rest for a small business and it's right back to work, changing the pre-holiday sales into bigger post-holiday mark downs.

"We just do that after the holidays. Just a little bump for those people who may have gotten some extra Christmas money," said Co-Owner DeEtte Sexton.
