Davenport Council To Discuss West Side Diversion Tunnel Phase 3

Updated:

The Westside Diversion Tunnel Project will be up for discussion Wednesday night, January 2, 2013, at the Davenport City Council meeting.

Council members will look into the third phase, the final portion of the $56 million project, which is expected to start this spring.

The city is having a public hearing on the detailed plan for phase three. They'll also be forming a contract and putting together an estimated cost.

Crews have been working for months and have recently installed a massive underground pipe that is expected to change the way storm water and sewage travels throughout the city.

The new line also enables residential and industrial development in currently sparse parts of Davenport.

The entire project is aimed at improving the storm sewer system and stretches from 9th and Wilkes past Williams Intermediate School at 30th street.

Work on phase two started at the beginning of 2012 and the digging was completed in October.

Residents in the west side of Davenport say it's been a long and inconvenient process, but they're glad the work is getting done.

What's left of phase two is the installation of the carrier pipe in the tunnel. The pipe has been completed between 9th and Pleasant Streets, with the rest expected to be completed over the winter months.
