After decades on Mission Gorge Road, San Diego Shade, San Diego’s first window covering business, is moving to its new location in the Miramar district. The business will now be located at 7354 Trade Street, San Diego, CA, 92121.

“When San Diego Shade moved to Mission Gorge Road in the 60’s, North County San Diego consisted pretty much of Escondido and Poway in the east and the beach communities on the coast. The middle was pretty much just farmland and canyons. Now, we have Sorrento Valley, Carmel Valley, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Penasquitos, San Marcos, 4S Ranch, Santa Luz, and a greatly expanded Carlsbad and San Marcos,” said Bill Fleck, president of San Diego Shade, continuing, “our new central location will better serve the entire San Diego community. Located in the midst of the Miramar Design District, San Diego Shade’s new showroom will be much more convenient for the folks exploring window covering design options for their homes and businesses.”
San Diego Shade, as part of this move, has expanded their showroom space by over 50%, adding new lines and selections, all in an updated and modern space designed to make the window covering shopping experience a more comfortable and enjoyable one. This move also makes San Diego Shade’s showroom one of the largest window covering showrooms in the area.
“Over the next few months, as we settle into the new location, we’ll be adding more and more samples, sample books as well as expanding the lines we offer,” said Fleck, “it’s our commitment to offer our customers a wide selection as well as the overall customer experience - we want it to be great.”
This is the 4th major move for the business since its founding in 1914. San Diego Shade started off downtown in 1914, and as the city grew, moved to the North Park area in the 1920’s. With the great commercial boom in San Diego during the 50’s and 60’s, expansion into Mission Valley, Claremont and surrounding areas pushed the city further north and San Diego Shade soon after settled into its Mission Gorge location.
“It’s natural for the business to be pulled north along with the population. Times do change, but at San Diego Shade we are still focused on the same things that have kept us in business for nearly 100 years - value, quality and a commitment to our customer,” added Fleck.
San Diego Shade invites you to come and see their new facility – it’s a great place to learn about what’s new in window covering products and what hasn’t changed in terms of a long tradition of value and great service.
