UPDATE: Police have released the name of the driver of the SUV that crashed into the Davenport laundromat on Sunday night.

Police say 37-year-old Lauro Alcaide-Ramirez was behind the wheel when the vehicle crashed through the plate glass windows in the front of the business.

Alcaide-Ramirez has been charged with operating with no drivers license and operating without insurance.

Original Story: The driver of an SUV turned a Davenport laundromat into a drive-thru.

It happened Sunday night, just before 8, at the Mother Hubbard's on Hickory Grove at Fairmount. Somehow the driver lost control and plowed through the plate glass window.

There were people near the door at the time.  Witnesses say it was a close call. "I was closing the door and saw someone pull in," Robert Jaymes tells us. "He just revved the engine and slammed through the glass."

"I was shocked and really scared."

"There are usually a lot of kids here on a Sunday night, so I looked under the car to see if anyone was there and injured."

There were not. Police tell us no one was hurt.

No word at this hour on the extent of the damage, or any charges the driver might face.
