Age really is simply a number for some people. Ninety nine year old Ed Gizynski is remarkable. Three times a week, for the past 40 years, Ed works out at the Two Rivers YMCA in Moline. Exercise allows him to use his muscles.
Making his way from machine to machine, Ed cannot remember a time when exercise was not an important part of his life. He played tennis and golf, twice a week, for twenty five to thirty years. Swimming was also a big part of his exercise regiment.
He has made many friends during his frequent workouts at the Y. Rita Amundsen first met him a few years ago. She says his commitment to keeping fit is an inspiration.
Rita, along with Vicki Welveart and Peggy Stoner have developed a friendship through exercise. The three women make it a point to give Ed hugs when they see him at the Y. They say it's his attitude and dedication which keep him, and them, young at heart. The women also presented him with a cake for his ninety ninth birthday.
Despite hip replacement surgery, you can't keep a good man down! Energetic Ed Gizynski weighs about one hundred fifty pounds. It has been that way for most of his adult life. He will celebrate his one hundredth birthday in September. Energetic Ed. A fitness phenom!
