The Clinton Police Department is getting reports from several businesses and financial institutions that they have received suspected counterfeit cash. The department is aware of at least 13 fake bills in 10, 20 and 50 dollar denominations that were passed on Jan. 6.
If you suspect you have received a counterfeit bill, police say hang onto it and try to delay the passer until police can arrive, but don't put yourself in harm's way. Be sure to get a good look at the suspect and any vehicles used.
Also, limit handling of the money. Put it in a bag or envelope and turn it over to police or the U.S. Secret Service.
