Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack is traveling the 2nd District as a way to get a first-hand look at small businesses. On Wednesday, Jan. 9, he took a tour of the Isabel Bloom plant in Davenport. The company, created by a local artist of the same name, makes cement statues and figurines originally created by a local artist of the same name. Isabel Bloom was also named one of the Quad City Chamber's small businesses of the year in 2012.

Loebsack says he's trying to learn what he can about these businesses and what owners might need help with. He'll take that information to Washington. With a new Congress, the Democrat says it's time to move past problems, like we saw with the wrangling to avoid automatic tax increases and spending cuts known as the fiscal cliff.

"The American people are tired of this. They're fed up with this, so you know clearly those are the same things that happened last year that are happening now. We've got to have that stability. We've got to get the economy back on it's feet. People have to get back to work. That's what I'm hearing from people. That's what has to happen," Loebsack said.

On Thursday, he will make remarks at the 10th anniversary celebration for the Habitat Restore. Then, he'll stop at another small business, Fabricators Plus, in Muscatine.
