It's the largest expansion project for the hospital in Rock Island in 40 years. Trinity Health System plans to build a 90,000 square-foot, three-story addition to the Rock Island campus, pending approval from the State of Illinois. The $61.3 million construction project will expand the Trinity Heart Center and the emergency department.

According to a news release, the rapidly increasing number of patients in the emergency department, cardiac treatment unit, and psychiatric crisis service areas is prompting the need for the expansion.

More details on the project will be released at a news conference Thursday morning.
