Former Illinois Governor George Ryan was released from prison Wednesday.

Ryan arrived in Chicago after spending more than five years in an Indiana federal prison on corruption charges.

After being brought to a halfway house in Chicago, the Bureau of Prisons allowed Ryan to be confined at his lone-time residence in Kankakee.

The 78-year old was convicted in 2006 of racketeering, conspiracy, tax fraud and making false statements to the FBI.

Ryan's release means that now only one former Illinois governor is behind bars. Rod Blagojevich is serving a 14-year term in a Colorado prison for corruption.
