The weather has been changing throughout the day -- from rain to sleet to snow. But it also changes depending on where you are.

Because weather is constantly evolving, the Muscatine County Sheriff's Department wants drivers to know what there getting into before leaving home or work. So, deputies are blogging about it.

"This morning we were updating every ten minutes because things were really changing from the West side of the county over to the East," said Muscatine County Sheriff Dave White.

"One half of the county may be 100% snow and ice covered and the other half may just be wet."

So, wherever there's a Muscatine county deputy patrolling, that deputy is updating weather and road conditions online.

"We gave them information on how to access the site from their in-car computers," White said. All they have to do is log on to the county sheriff's web site, sign in and spread the word about the snow.

"Hopefully it's making the dispatch phone ring less because we always have people calling, asking what the roads are like."

The county dispatch center is constantly fielding calls from drivers concerned over road conditions. It's taking attention away from other, sometimes more serious, emergencies.

"On days like today they just get so overwhelmed with calls from vehicles in the ditch, people who need assistance, we thought it was just better to do it in the car," he said.

So, if you have concerns about the roads in Muscatine County, the sheriff's department is now online, ready to give you real-time updates about what to expect when you head out the door.

"We want to give the most accurate information we can so people can make a decision whether they should leave or whether they shouldn't."
