The lawyer for Nicholas Sheley has filed a motion to have his client's sentence reconsidered.

On January 16, 2013, Sheley was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Russell Reed of Sterling, Ill. Reed, who was beaten to death, is said to be the first person Sheley killed while on a murderous rampage that authorities say went on for several days in several cities in Illinois and Missouri in June of 2008.

Sheley's attorney, Jeremy Karlin, filed the motion on Thursday, January 31, 2013. The motion states, among other things, that the sentence should be reconsidered because it is excessively cruel and unusual.

Karlin made the same motion after Sheley was sentence in the murder of 65-year-old Ronald Randall from Galesburg, Ill.
